The Italian Navy ship Luigi Rizzo arrives at the Port of Maputo on the morning of Tuesday, April 8, where it will remain until Friday, April 11. The stopover precedes the resumption of the patrol and protection mission of commercial traffic in the Horn of Africa and Indian Ocean region, as part of the EUNAVFOR Atalanta operation, led by the European Union.
The Rizzo frigate, of the FREMM class and launched in 2017, currently plays the role of flagship of the European mission, which is under Italian command, entrusted to Rear Admiral Davide Da Pozzo.
During their stay in Maputo, the frigate's crew, under the command of Giuseppe Lucafò, will participate in an intense series of activities within the scope of cooperation with the Mozambican Armed Forces and in meetings with civil society, coordinated by the Italian Embassy.
The visit of the Rizzo ship also aims to sign a new cooperation program between the Italian Navy and the Mozambican Navy, with the aim of further strengthening dialogue and military cooperation in the field of maritime security.
