The Dean of the Faculty of Law at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM), Professor Eduardo Alexandre Chiziane, attended the Global Dialogue of Directors of Law Schools, a high-level event integrated into the World Bank Group's Law, Justice and Development Week (LJD Week) 2025. The meeting, which took place from November 3 to 5 in Washington DC, brought together academic leaders from more than 15 universities across four continents.
Led by Heather Hughes, Dean of the American University Washington College of Law, the dialogue aimed to position legal education as an essential tool for strengthening the rule of law, considered a fundamental pillar for effective economic development. Topics discussed included access to justice, the training of a new generation of legal professionals, and the promotion of global collaborations between educational institutions.
On that occasion, Professor Chiziane highlighted the particular relevance of the event to the Mozambican context. "This is a unique opportunity to establish strategic partnerships that strengthen the rule of law, a fundamental pillar for any emerging economy," he stated. In this way, UEM's participation in this international forum not only reinforces the university's commitment to the highest academic standards, but also its determination to align legal education with the pressing needs of Mozambique's socio-economic development.
