INCM shuts down illegal FM radio station in Niassa

The Communications Regulatory Authority (INCM) carried out another inspection operation in the north of the country on August 3rd, this time in the district of Ngauma, Niassa province.

Within its remit to monitor the radio spectrum, the regulatory body dismantled an FM radio broadcasting station that was operating illegally on the 101.2 MHz frequency.

The clandestine radio station was located in the village of Nacange, in the Chissembire area, Massangulo administrative post, and operated without any license, which constitutes a direct violation of current legislation.

The infraction was detected during an inspection patrol in the region, and, as a consequence, the INCM team ordered the immediate cessation of transmissions, also seizing all the transmitting equipment used in the illegal exploitation of the frequency.

The case takes on greater gravity because the station was located near the border with the Republic of Malawi. In this sense, its irregular operation represented a high risk of harmful interference with other duly licensed broadcasting services, both within the national territory and in border areas, which would compromise the efficient and harmonious use of the radio spectrum.

In a statement, INCM reminds that the installation and operation of broadcasting stations, as well as any other radiocommunication system, are subject to mandatory prior authorization, in accordance with the law.

Therefore, the unauthorized use of frequencies constitutes a serious offense, subject to administrative and legal measures ranging from the seizure of equipment to the initiation of appropriate legal proceedings.

Finally, the Regulatory Authority reinforces its commitment to the efficient, transparent and legal management of the spectrum, and guarantees that it will intensify its oversight actions throughout the national territory.

At the same time, it calls on operators and the general public to strictly comply with the legislation in order to prevent interference and ensure the provision of safe and quality communications services for all Mozambicans.
