In Mulotane, a tractor is replacing public transport after roads became impassable due to rain

The heavy rains of the last few days continue to paralyze mobility in several parts of the city of Matola. However, it is in the Mulotane neighborhood that the situation is most dramatic: with the roads degraded and completely flooded, residents have been forced to improvise a risky solution — a tractor has become the only means of passenger transport.

In fact, with the water blocking all access routes and preventing the passage of cars and buses, the tractor became the only viable, albeit precarious, alternative for crossing the Matola River. Consequently, images shared by residents on social media show dozens of people being transported in dangerous conditions, highlighting the lack of adequate infrastructure and exposing the community to serious risks.

This scenario, however, is not new to the local population. Residents report that whenever the rain intensifies, the roads become impassable and there are no safe transportation options. For this reason, the appeal to municipal authorities and the government is urgent: the immediate construction of a bridge in the affected area is seen as the only way to guarantee the circulation of people and goods, as well as ensuring the safety of the community.

Although local authorities have not yet officially commented on the case, public pressure is mounting as demands are made for structural intervention to prevent the neighborhood from becoming isolated during the rainy season.
