Head of State praises Father Vicente Berenguer's legacy of courage and justice

President Daniel Francisco Chapo sent a message of condolence to the Catholic Church on the death of Father Vicente Berenguer Lliopis. The Spanish missionary, who passed away on October 21, 2025, in Teulada, Spain, dedicated decades of his life to the Mozambican people, a contribution the Head of State described as "decisive."

In his statement, President Chapo highlighted the priest's courageous role in denouncing the Wiriyamu Massacre and his tireless support for the education of the most vulnerable children. The statesman praised the priest's legacy of "courage, justice, and humanism," reaffirming that "Mozambique will honor the memory of someone who dedicated his life to the common good."
