Guinea reiterates its support for Moroccan identity in the Sahara and endorses a plan for autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty

Guinea-Conakry reaffirmed its firm and consistent position of support for Moroccan identity in the Sahara during the 8th session of the Morocco-Guinea Joint Cooperation Commission, held on Tuesday, September 8th, in Conakry. This session was co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Abroad, Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté.

In his opening speech at this 8th session, Dr. Kouyaté declared that the Republic of Guinea reaffirms its firm and unwavering support for Moroccan control of the Sahara and for Moroccan sovereignty over that part of its territory. The Guinean minister also reaffirmed that his country "supports autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as the only solution to this dispute, as advocated by Morocco before the UN Security Council." The Guinean Foreign Minister added that the opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Guinea in Dakhla is a concrete expression of this principled position and a symbol of unwavering solidarity. In turn, Bourita reiterated the gratitude of the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco for the unconditional and constant support of the Republic of Guinea, evidenced by its positions in various regional and international forums, as well as by the opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Guinea in Dakhla in January 2020.
