The Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) arrested two employees of the Maputo City Administrative Court this Wednesday. The operation, which included searches and seizures at the institution, stems from suspicions of involvement in acts of corruption.
The detainees are a Provincial Law clerk, assigned to the Administrative Litigation Office, and a clerk's assistant from the Department of Administration and Finance (DAF), in the area of Assets.
Following their arrest, the two officials were taken to the GCCC facilities for subsequent legal proceedings. As part of the process, the defendants are expected to appear before the investigating judge later today, September 17, for their first judicial interrogation.
So far, the authorities have not released details about the specific facts that led to the arrests, nor about any potential sums of money or benefits that may be involved.
Those detained are considered defendants and benefit from the presumption of innocence until a final judicial decision is reached.
