Fire in Nampula Destroys 100,000 School Books En route to Schools

A major road accident occurred this week on the route between Monapo and Mogincual, in the province of Nampula, with serious consequences for the 2026 school year.

More than 100,000 schoolbooks, destined for the districts of Mogincual and Liúpo, were completely destroyed after the truck transporting them veered off the road and overturned, immediately causing a violent fire.

According to the Ministry of Education and Culture, the shipment, originating from the northern regional warehouse in Nacala, consisted of 52,650 textbooks for Mogincual and 47,900 for Liúpo. Unfortunately, all the material was completely destroyed by the fire, representing a significant loss for the local education system.

Faced with this situation, the Ministry has already publicly guaranteed that the transport company responsible has insurance and that all efforts are underway for the urgent replacement of the textbooks. The highest-ranking education official in the province stated that he is closely monitoring the case, adding that he is working with the authorities to minimize the impact on the affected primary schools.

"This situation is very worrying," the official stated, "but we are working hard to replace the textbooks as quickly as possible. Therefore, we will do everything in our power to ensure that students are not harmed by this loss."

Meanwhile, the educational community is dismayed by what happened and is anxiously waiting for the authorities to fulfill their promise and find a quick solution to address the lack of teaching materials.
