Ferroviário da Beira in Maputo with a clear objective: to fight for the Sasol League title

The Ferroviário da Beira senior women's team is already in Maputo, ready to compete in the Sasol League. The competition, which kicks off on the 7th at the Polytechnic pavilion, has as its main objective for the "locomotives" of Chiveve a place among the best in the championship.

According to head coach Micael Takidir, the team arrives in the capital with well-defined goals. "Expectations are the best possible. Our first objective is to advance to the next phase, since there are seven games. Achieving that, we will be in the quarter-finals and, from there, we will fight until the end. Therefore, the initial focus is very clear: to advance in the competition," he emphasized.

Regarding the opponents, Takidir has no illusions about the difficulty of the championship, highlighting mainly the national and African champion, Ferroviário de Maputo, and the runner-up, Costa do Sol. "We believe that all the games will be difficult. We will face Ferroviário de Maputo, an extremely experienced team, with a coach who knows national and international basketball deeply. On the other hand, there is also Costa do Sol, which has given the champion a hard time. Besides these, we have Politécnica, Lázio, Águias Especiais – which are a new team – and the other teams from the central zone. It will be a complete challenge," analyzed the strategist.

From the athletes' side, the spirit is one of confidence. Captain Verónica Salifo spoke about the team's atmosphere. "The mood is very positive. We came relaxed, but focused, with the goal of reaching the level we set for ourselves. We believe it will be a good championship for everyone, but our main focus is to secure a place among the top three," she said.

Despite being aware of the quality of their opponents, Verónica assures that the team is not intimidated. "Ferroviário da Beira came prepared for this. We know that we are going to face the African champions, but we will not bow our heads to any team. The fact that they are champions does not mean that we cannot compete for the podium with them," she stated, determined.

To prepare for the start of the competition, the Beira team had its first training session scheduled for last Wednesday, November 5th, at the Ferroviário de Maputo pavilion.
