Environmental protection marks Africa Day celebrations on Mozambique Island

On Monday, May 25th, inter-school educational workshops were held in the Slavery Memory Garden and the Conference Room of the Mozambique Island Media Library, alluding to Africa Day and under the theme "Ensuring the Sustainable Availability of Water and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve Agenda 2063".

The initiative, promoted by the Mozambique Island Conservation Office (GACIM), in partnership with BCI, involved students from the 25 de Junho, 16 de Junho and Josina Machel Primary Schools, accompanied by their respective teachers and representatives, providing an educational, cultural and interactive space for learning, reflection and knowledge sharing.

The program began with a guided tour of the Slavery Memorial Garden, led by GACIM representative Baltazar Nicotelmo, allowing participants to deepen their knowledge of the historical and cultural heritage of Mozambique Island. This was followed by an interactive general culture session in the Media Library, based on the content covered during the visit.

During the activity, educational sessions were also held on environmental preservation, sustainable water use, and safe sanitation, encouraging students to adopt responsible and sustainable practices in their daily lives. The students with the best performance were awarded institutional gifts from BCI, namely notebooks and folders.

On that occasion, the BCI representative, Ivan Pereira, highlighted that participation in the program contributes to the development of values ​​such as citizenship, environmental responsibility, creativity, and a spirit of cooperation, emphasizing the importance of valuing historical heritage as a basis for building a sustainable future.

In turn, GACIM's technical director, Rodrigues Geraldo Bandali, stated that the meeting was a privileged moment to reinforce the commitment to sustainable development on the Island of Mozambique, highlighting the defense of the environment as the central axis of the initiative.

With this action, BCI reaffirms its commitment to promoting education, citizenship and sustainability, contributing to the formation of a generation that is more aware and committed to the future of the country.
