Coming soon: “The Return of the Mangy Dog”, by Mudungazi

Suddenly, a mysterious dog appears in a quiet village. Its appearance is immediately met with terror by the children, who shout in unison: “It’s the Mangy Dog! It’s the Mangy Dog…”. Amidst the commotion, two teenage girls, Denisse and Matchosse, are intrigued. The appearance of that animal triggers a series of questions: “Mangy Dog? Didn’t they kill Mangy Dog after all? And the stories we’ve been hearing all this time? Are they just trying to trick us?”.

Startled by the boys' shouts and relentless pursuit, the dog flees, eventually finding refuge in another neighborhood. There, with cunning, he infiltrates a family, taking advantage of the children's naiveté to become a false friend. Zofanias, one of the boys, captivated by his new companion, keeps whistling a tune of blind trust: "I trust you, Mangy Dog. I trust you...".

MUDUNGAZI is the artistic name of Isaías Mucindo Armando Mate, a native of Mozambique, Gaza province, Mandlakazi district. In addition to his career as a university professor, he stands out in the literary scene: he holds a Master's degree in Education/Teaching of Portuguese from the Pedagogical University of Maputo and a Bachelor's degree in Teaching Portuguese from Eduardo Mondlane University.

Her literary career is marked by notable distinctions: she won the 4th Edition of the José Craveirinha Literary Prize, in the Poetry category, promoted by the Pedagogical University of Maxixe, and received an Honorable Mention in the 3rd International Literature Competition of ALACIB (Brazilian Academy of Letters, Arts and Sciences), also in the Poetry category.

 Her work is represented in several publications, such as the Prose and Poetry Anthology in the book Impoética & Poesia, Poemas & Cartas Ridículas de Amor, Memórias do Idai, and in the magazine Mangues & Letras (June 13, 2020, no. 14). Recently, in 2024, she published “Memória Subterrânea” (prose) and “Sonata de uma Nação Vagabunda” (poetry), the latter already a semifinalist for the Oceanos Prize 2025, attesting to the quality and relevance of her work.
