Users of the Automotora e Bus, a service of the Mozambique Railways (CFM) that connects Maputo to locations such as Marracuene, Boane and Matola Gare, are protesting against unfair charges and system failures, which have caused great inconvenience.
A recent example, uncovered by our reporting, illustrates the problem. During a trip from Kenneth Kaunda Avenue to Central Station, the fare collection device on the bus indicated a debit of only twenty meticais (20.00 MT). However, upon confirming the balance with the supervisor on board, the passenger found that he had been charged seventy meticais (70.00 MT).
Faced with the situation, the supervisor assured everyone that they would not have to pay again when boarding the train. However, upon arriving at the Central Station, the passengers' cards were rejected at both ticket machines. To avoid being prevented from traveling, the passengers were forced to pay a second time for their ticket, this time in cash.
Beyond this case, the user community laments the poor communication from CFM and the lack of flexibility in clarifying services. Passengers complain that the only solution offered is to go to the company's offices to get information, a measure that is impractical due to the tight boarding and disembarking schedules.
