Bobole residents take revenge after motorcycle taxi driver's murder

The Bobole neighborhood, on the outskirts of Maputo city, experienced moments of great tension and outrage following the brutal murder of a young motorcycle taxi driver. The victim's body was thrown into a well approximately 45 meters deep, forcing the fire department to be called, but they were unable to rescue him. Faced with the authorities' ineffectiveness, a young local man, Alberto Maluana, descended into the well using a rope, a mask, and a cell phone, managing to bring the body to the surface. His courageous act earned him recognition from the community, which now considers him a hero.

The public, outraged by the crime, went to the home of the main suspect currently in police custody and destroyed everything they found: they set fire to his vehicle, his house, and several possessions. Even pets were not spared the public's fury; a dog was killed, and a pig escaped amid the chaos. Later, when the pig returned to the scene, the public slaughtered it and consumed its meat as a symbolic way of regaining strength. The area where the young man was murdered was also marked as a form of remembrance and protest for justice.
