Blood and destruction in Cabo Delgado: attack in Mitope leaves dead and causes mass exodus

A group of terrorists attacked, in the early afternoon of last Thursday (23), the town of Mitope, located about 50 kilometers from the town of Mocímboa da Praia, causing at least four deaths.

According to local sources, in addition to the deaths, the attackers raided small shops, taking various goods and leaving a scene of destruction and fear among the residents.

As quoted by Carta de Moçambique, following the attack, several families were forced to abandon the village again, seeking refuge in Oasse, in the town of Mocímboa da Praia, as well as in other areas of the Mueda district.

However, a publication attributed to the Islamic State's propaganda agency, Amaq, reports that seven Mozambican soldiers were killed during an attack on a base in Metube, referring to the Mitope area. The same source also indicates that other soldiers were injured and that the attackers seized firearms belonging to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).
