The press conference for the launch of the 2nd edition of “Maputo Pedalando”, an initiative of the Maputo Municipal Council, which once again has the support of BCI, took place this Monday (10) in the city of Maputo. The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 16, with departure and arrival at Praça Robert Mugabe, on Avenida 25 de Setembro, next to the Bank's headquarters.
The press conference was attended by representatives from the Maputo Municipal Council, BCI, and other partner institutions of the initiative.
Conceived in 2023, "Maputo Pedalando" aims to encourage the use of bicycles as an alternative means of transport for short urban trips, associating sustainable mobility with the promotion of sport, health, leisure and active citizenship.
On that occasion, the Councillor for Mobility, Transport and Traffic of the Maputo Municipal Council, Juvêncio Bule, presented the program and explained the dynamics of the event, thanking the partners and citizens for their involvement.
“We hope that, with this project, we can increase the use of bicycles and improve not only the mobility of our communities, but also their health. Together we will embrace Maputo, the beautiful city of acacias and jacarandas,” he stated.
In turn, BCI's Central Marketing Director, Ana Zara Fateally, congratulated the Municipal Council on holding the second edition, highlighting the convergence of the initiative with the Bank's commitment to sustainability and the quality of life of the communities.
“This project is of particular importance to us, as it is integrated into the celebrations of our 30th anniversary, reaffirming our close relationship with the communities and our commitment to sustainable development,” he said.
Ana Zara Fateally further emphasized that "Maputo Cycling" is "an invitation to build a more inclusive, safer and healthier city," highlighting the value of partnerships in promoting good practices with a positive impact on the community.
This year's edition includes road cycling races, on a 60-kilometer course, and mountain biking, with 50 kilometers, as well as a popular 10-kilometer bicycle parade. The program also includes gastronomy, health and crafts fairs, aerobics activities, among others.
By once again partnering with “Maputo Cycling”, BCI reinforces its support for initiatives that encourage healthy habits, sustainable mobility, and community participation in building a city prepared for the challenges of the future, with confidence.
