BCI hosts the 1st edition of FUNDEC Economic Outlook dedicated to economic intelligence

The Auditorium of the BCI Headquarters Building hosted, this Thursday, July 23rd, the 1st edition of the FUNDEC Economic Outlook, an initiative promoted by the Foundation for Business Competitiveness (FUNDEC), which marked the official launch of two economic intelligence instruments: the Employment and Productivity Index (IEP) and the 2nd edition of the Financial Business Rating (REF).

The event brought together the Minister of Youth and Sports, Caifadine Manasse, members of the Government, the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Mozambique, representatives from the business sector, academia, and civil society, in a space for reflection on the challenges and opportunities for the competitiveness and development of the Mozambican economy.

As host, the BCI Administrator, Raúl Almeida, highlighted the importance of hosting the initiative in a year in which the Bank celebrates 30 years of existence, underlining the relevance of the articulation between the main actors of economic development. “We have here three of the main pillars that allow the economy to evolve: the business sector, which forms the basis for a developed economy; the Banks, as a financial lever, which evaluate projects and enable financing; and the State, responsible for the coordination, implementation and supervision of policies,” he stated. He also argued that the meeting constitutes “a first step” for the debate and realization of ideas capable of contributing to the economic growth and development of Mozambique.

In his speech, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Caifadine Manasse, considered that the new instruments presented by FUNDEC are particularly relevant in a context marked by challenges in job creation, increased productivity, and the modernization of the business sector. “Mozambique faces demanding challenges in job creation, productivity, and the modernization of its business sector. In such contexts, knowledge is not an accessory: it is an instrument of governance,” he stated. According to the Minister, the indicators presented are not merely statistical exercises, but planning and monitoring tools for reforms, capable of supporting more effective public policies that are closer to the reality of citizens and businesses.

In turn, the President of FUNDEC, Agostinho Vuma, stated that the FUNDEC Economic Outlook aims to establish itself as a permanent national platform for economic reflection, intended to

To monitor, interpret, and anticipate the evolution of the Mozambican economy. “Today we are not just holding an event. Today we are launching a permanent national platform for economic reflection,” he declared. According to Agostinho Vuma, the initiative aims to promote an analysis based on scientific evidence of the main indicators that influence the competitiveness and development of the Mozambican economy, starting from the principle that “modern economies are not transformed solely through good intentions, but through credible information, rigorous diagnosis, and decisions supported by evidence.”

As a partner, BCI reaffirms its commitment to developing initiatives that promote knowledge, dialogue, and informed decision-making, contributing to a more competitive economy and a Mozambique with greater opportunities for growth and development.
