ANE closes EN1 between Incoluane and 3 de Fevereiro due to flooding of the Incomáti River

The National Roads Administration (ANE, IP) has suspended, with immediate effect, the circulation of all vehicles on the Incoluane–3 de Fevereiro section of National Road Number One (EN1), in Maputo province. The decision was motivated by the significant increase in the flow of the Incomáti River, which caused flooding along a stretch of approximately three kilometers, jeopardizing road safety.

According to a statement released this Saturday, January 17, 2026, the situation is being monitored on the ground by technical teams, who are tracking the water levels and working to restore circulation as soon as conditions allow. ANE assures that it will update the public as soon as normality is restored.

Given the current rainy season, the institution also warns of the possibility of similar occurrences on other roads and urges drivers and transport operators to plan their journeys with caution. As a preventive measure, ANE also recommends that vehicles with a total weight exceeding 10 tons avoid driving on unpaved roads, in order to minimize damage and prevent accidents.

This ban reflects the ongoing challenges faced by the national road network during the rainy season, requiring swift responses and clear communication from the authorities, as well as greater awareness on the part of road users.
