Alfeu Cuna takes office as the new governor of Gaza following the resignation of Margarida Mapandzene

Alfeu Constantino Cuna, a member of the Provincial Assembly and president of the Constitutional and Religious Affairs Committee, is the new governor of Gaza province. The appointment, made by the Frelimo party, follows the resignation of Margarida Mapandzene, who left the post a few days ago for personal and professional reasons.

Originally from the Chókwè district in Gaza, where he was born on November 12, 1984, Alfeu Cuna arrives at the provincial government with a solid academic background: he holds a master's degree in Business Law and is a specialist in Public Law. 

Until his appointment, Cuna held important positions in the Provincial Assembly, notably as chairman of the Committee on Constitutional and Religious Affairs. However, with the new mission entrusted to him, the governor's main task will now be to continue the 2025-2029 term, as stipulated by law and the Provincial Assembly's regulations – since he replaces Mapandzene during his term. 

Alfeu Cuna's election took place internally, with the favorable vote of all 82 members comprising the four blocs of the Gaza Provincial Assembly. Thus, the new governor assumes office during a transitional period, but with the responsibility of maintaining stability and the course set for the province in the coming years.
