Absa hosts cybersecurity conference and reinforces leadership in digital protection of the financial sector

In a context of rapid digitalization of financial services, the increased exposure to cyber risks has reinforced the need for a more robust, integrated, and continuous approach to digital security.

It was within this context that Absa Bank Mozambique held a cybersecurity conference in Maputo on April 22nd and 23rd, bringing together international experts from the Absa Group, members of the Board of Directors, clients, partners, entrepreneurs, and government representatives through the Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation.

This initiative positions itself as a structuring moment for reflection and alignment on the role of cybersecurity in the sustainability and trust of the financial system, in a scenario increasingly marked by the sophistication of digital threats and the growing use of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

Over the course of two days, the main challenges of the current cyber landscape were debated, with particular emphasis on the increase in fraud attempts, digital manipulation techniques, and new risk factors associated with technological evolution. The conference also highlighted the importance of coordinated action between financial institutions, the business sector, and public entities as a critical factor for an effective response to the challenges of cyberspace.

Beyond knowledge sharing, the event also had a practical component, focused on identifying concrete measures for incident prevention, mitigation, and response, reinforcing the importance of digital literacy and the adoption of safe behaviors by employees and customers.

According to Jaikumar Sathish, Director of Information Technology at Absa Bank Mozambique, “cybersecurity is an essential pillar in building trust in the financial sector. At Absa, we believe that digital innovation must go hand in hand with security. Therefore, we have been continuously investing in robust technological solutions and in the training of our employees and customers, because only in this way can we guarantee a secure, reliable banking experience aligned with the demands of the digital world.”

In line with this vision, Absa has been consistently strengthening its fraud prevention and detection mechanisms, combining technological investment with awareness and capacity-building initiatives. By holding this conference, the Bank reaffirms its commitment to leading the cybersecurity agenda in Mozambique, actively contributing to a safer, more resilient financial ecosystem, better prepared for the challenges of the digital economy.
