45 days that changed lives: the farewell of the Gorongosa National Park interns

It was 45 days of intense learning, on-the-ground experience, and living in harmony with nature in its purest state. On July 3, 2026, Gorongosa National Park bid farewell to the 19 students from the Tourism course at the Gorongosa Polytechnic Institute (IMPG), who arrived there on May 18 to carry out their curricular internship.

During this period, the young people had the opportunity to put the knowledge acquired in the classroom into practice, transforming it into real skills. More than that, they experienced firsthand the routine of conservation, the art of hospitality, and the workings of one of Mozambique's most emblematic tourist destinations.

For many, this immersion represented a unique on-the-ground learning experience. Intern Félix Mário Pita shared his enthusiasm: 

"During the internship, we had the opportunity to learn directly from our tutor, Mr. José Montinho. The practical classes allowed us to better understand the Gorongosa ecosystem, from the different types of soil and termite mounds to the behavior of wildlife and the coexistence between species. It was a very enriching experience that made learning more practical and unforgettable."

Now, with their departure, an important chapter closes, but a new stage full of challenges begins. The interns take with them not only technical knowledge, but also memories and experiences that will surely mark their careers and their lives.

Gorongosa National Park is proud to have been part of this walk and wishes each of them much success in the future. Confident that they will carry the spirit of conservation with them, it believes these young people will be true ambassadors for sustainable tourism and the natural wealth of Gorongosa, wherever they may be.
