A new branch of Banco de Moçambique started operating on Friday in the city of Chimoio, in the province of Manica. The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated the infrastructure that will make commercial banks, especially, and citizens of that city, stop resorting to the city of Beira, in Sofala, to raise and deposit money, in large sums. It is 200 kilometers from one city to another.
The building covers an area of 2,500 square meters. It is a construction of modern architecture and resilient to climate change.
After the inauguration of the project, Filipe Nyusi said that the start-up of the branch marks the end of the martyrdom of commercial banks to carry out banking operations.
“With the opening of the Chimoio branch, banks operating in the province of Manica now have deposit and cash withdrawal services with the Central Bank, reducing the associated risks and costs,” explained the Head of State.
According to Nyusi, treasury operations should be made easier and less costly. There should also be greater speed in the provision of banknotes and national currency in perfect condition.
In turn, the Governor of Banco de Moçambique, Rogério Zandamela, thanked everyone who made it possible to construct the building in Manica.
With the opening of the Chimoio branch, Banco de Moçambique already has offices in all provincial capitals.
